Now on leave, activist Michael Amushelelo is set to sue the government for N$10 million over wrongful arrest and malicious prosecution related to the 21 March 2023 national protest against high youth unemployment.

‎Amushelelo, together with Member of Parliament Inna Hengari and Dimbulukweni Nauyoma, were arrested during the protest held on Independence Day, in Windhoek.

‎In 2023, Namibia marked its 33rd Independence Anniversary in Outapi, Omusati Region, under the theme “A People United for Prosperity.” The celebrations featured a keynote address by then-President Hage Geingob, who highlighted the country’s progress and the government’s continued efforts toward achieving national aspirations.
