Now on leave, activist Michael Amushelelo is set to sue the government for N$10 million over wrongful arrest and malicious prosecution related to the 21 March 2023 national protest against high youth unemployment.
Amushelelo, together with Member of Parliament Inna Hengari and Dimbulukweni Nauyoma, were arrested during the protest held on Independence Day, in Windhoek.
In 2023, Namibia marked its 33rd Independence Anniversary in Outapi, Omusati Region, under the theme “A People United for Prosperity.” The celebrations featured a keynote address by then-President Hage Geingob, who highlighted the country’s progress and the government’s continued efforts toward achieving national aspirations.
