As Nigeria gears up for another political showdown in 2027, former Sports Minister Solomon Dalung has thrown some bold words into the ring—the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is not just ready, it’s coming as a credible alternative to the ruling party!
Speaking on Arise TV’s Morning Show, Dalung brushed aside concerns raised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over leadership registration. According to him, the ADC is far from being just “an association.” Instead, it’s a 19-year-old party currently in transition, welcoming new coalition partners into its fold.
⚖️ INEC Queries and Party Politics
INEC had earlier refused to formally recognize Senator David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola as the party’s National Chairman and National Secretary. This meant that, for now, any documents signed by them remained invalid. But Dalung insists this is just a procedural hiccup, noting that party leaders are already working to settle the commission’s requirements.
“The requirements of INEC are legal obligations, and the ADC has no choice but to comply. Nigerians will soon hear the proper position of things,” he explained confidently.
🎭 Internal Drama?
When asked about Dumebi Kachikwu, ADC’s 2023 presidential candidate, who claimed the party had been hijacked by outsiders, Dalung was unbothered. He reminded Nigerians that being a former candidate doesn’t automatically make one part of the party’s decision-making organs.
“Everyone is free to hold opinions, but derogatory remarks about other members are inappropriate,” he said.
🌍 Looking Ahead to 2027
Despite the legal formalities and internal debates, Dalung remains optimistic. He believes the ADC will rise above the noise to give Nigerians a genuine political option.
“These challenges are normal. From our activities across the country, it is clear Nigerians can count on us to provide a credible option in 2027,” Dalung declared.
With 2027 elections on the horizon, one thing is clear—the ADC is positioning itself not just as a participant, but as a challenger ready to shake Nigeria’s political table. Whether they can truly unseat the ruling party remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure: the drama is just getting started!
