2 days agoAsake (born Ahmed Ololade on 13 January 1995 in Lagos State) is a dynamic Nigerian singer, rapper, songwriter, actor, and dancer who has pushed Afrobeat and street-pop to global heights . He studied Theatre and Dramatic Arts at Obafemi Awolowo University but transitioned from dance into music career in 2018, releasing his breakout freestyle “Mr. Money” in 2020 .
In early 2022, Asake signed with Olamide’s imprint, YBNL Nation, then partnered with Empire for distribution. His debut EP Ololade featured the smash hit “Sungba”—which later received a star-studded remix with Burna Boy—and “Omo Ope” featuring Olamide . September 2022 saw the release of his debut album Mr. Money with the Vibe, smashing Apple Music records for African album debuts and reaching No. 66 on the Billboard 200—the highest-ever debut by a Nigerian artist at the time .
His follow-up album, Work of Art (June 2023), replicated the No. 66 spot and earned a BRIT Silver certification, while tracks from Lungu Boy (2024) shattered streaming records in Nigeria . Asake’s genre-blending sound—fusing Fuji, Amapiano, street hop, Pidgin English, Yoruba, and urban slang—has been described as “boundary‑pushing” by CNN .
He’s also a trailblazer on international stages: sold out the O2 Arena London and headlined the Barclays Center in NYC, even entering via helicopter . In late 2023, he became a Globacom brand ambassador alongside Kizz Daniel and Chike .
From humble beginnings to global acclaim, Asake remains a vibrant force in Afrobeats—his music resonates with street authenticity while achieving chart-topping success.
