62 days agoThe Anambra State Government has officially banned the practice of writing assignments directly inside textbooks, describing it as wasteful and unsustainable. This directive aims to make educational materials reusable, particularly for younger siblings, and to alleviate the financial burden on families.
Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, the state's Commissioner for Education, announced the policy during the third day of a capacity-building workshop for private school proprietors and teachers at St. John of God Secondary School in Awka. She emphasized that the decision aligns with the government's commitment to sustainable education and resource efficiency.
In addition to the textbook policy, the state government has also announced a crackdown on what it described as "incessant and unnecessary" graduation parties in nursery and primary schools. Authorities have warned against financial exploitation by school proprietors and urged stakeholders to report any violations to the Ministry of Education.
The initiative is part of Governor Charles Soludo's administration's broader strategy to ease financial pressure on families while promoting quality and inclusive education.
