Let’s talk about this whole “appreciate your child’s teacher” trend. Honestly, I’m a bit confused. As parents, after struggling to pay school fees — sometimes running from pillar to post just to meet up — why are we still expected to go the extra mile to personally show appreciation again?
Don’t get me wrong, I respect teachers deeply. Handling children (especially in large numbers) is not beans. It takes patience, skill, and dedication that deserves applause. Teachers play a huge role in shaping our kids, and for that, they deserve respect.
But here’s my issue: isn’t that what the salary is for? Parents are already paying fees, and those fees are meant to cover both education and welfare. So why make it look like parents are ungrateful if they don’t buy gifts, bring hampers, or go out of their way to do extra?
We need to find balance. Appreciating teachers verbally, acknowledging their hard work, and showing respect is wonderful. But making it look like a parent must spend beyond school fees just to “prove” gratitude? I’m sorry, that one no follow.
To all teachers, thank you sincerely for your effort. But appreciation should come from the heart, not by force or expectation.
