One day Asake went down to the river to wash some clothes. She carried a large tray and a pot. Near the river there was an old man.He was blind and lame.'Asake,please give me a drink of water from your pot,' he said.
Asake was afraid of the old man because he knew her name. She did not reply. She put her tray down by the river and began to wash the clothes.
The old man spoke to her again. 'Asake, please give me a drink of water from your pot. I am very thirsty. '
Asake spoke to the old man but she didn't took at him. She said, 'Why must I give you a drink? I am not your douther and I am not your servant. Get some water from the river. You'resitting by it. '
The old man spoke again. 'Please give me a drink from your pot.'
Asake was angry. 'Go away , 'she said. 'I am busy. 'She turned round to look at the old man,but he was not there. Then she knew that he was a spirit. She began to cry because she wished she had given him some water. Sometimes the spirits give people only three chances. Asake was afraid because now the spirit would be angry with her. End
