A deadly but preventable disease caused by Eimeria parasites that can ruin your flock if not managed properly.
Here’s how to prevent, detect, and treat it 🧵👇
✅ 1. PREVENTION (Your First & Best Line of Defense)
You don’t want to be reacting—you want to be preventing!
Focus on:
a. Hygiene & Biosecurity
Keep litter DRY — moisture = coccidia paradise ☠️
Clean drinkers/feeders regularly
Avoid overcrowding
Disinfect boots/tools; limit visitors
b. Use of Coccidiostats
Add to feed or water (e.g. Amprolium, Monensin, Salinomycin)
Rotate to avoid resistance
Observe withdrawal times before slaughter
c. Vaccination
Apply at hatchery or early in life
Common for layers & breeders, less in broilers
⚠️ 2. EARLY DETECTION IS KEY
Watch for the signs 👀:
Droopiness & low feed intake
Diarrhea (bloody or watery)
Weight loss, ruffled feathers
Sudden death in bad outbreaks

After an outbreak, sanitize aggressively:
Deep clean houses & change bedding
