2 days agoAccording to a report by the Punch on Thursday, August 14,2025,an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday cleared Miss Comfort Emmanson of charges for being unruly and assaulting flight crew on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos.
The case gained public attention because many people felt Emmanson was treated more harshly than others, like Fuji musician Kwam 1, who had a similar incident.
Narratively,Emmanson was arrested after videos went viral showing her attacking a flight attendant and clashing with airport security. She was granted bail of N500,000 with two sureties but was sent to Kirikiri Correctional Centre for failing to meet the bail conditions.
Civil society groups, the Nigerian Bar Association, and members of the public criticized Ibom Air and the Airline Operators of Nigeria for what they called unfair treatment.
After the public outcry, the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, announced that the complaints against Emmanson had been withdrawn, saying both passengers and airline staff were at fault and that lessons had been learned.
Keyamo added that Emmanson showed remorse for her actions, and the airline agreed to lift her lifetime flying ban. The police were instructed to release her from Kirikiri Prison within the week.
Later, at the court hearing, Magistrate Olanrewaju Salami formally discharged Emmanson after the police withdrew all five charges against her.
