1/ Every Nigerian student preparing for SSCE hears these two names: WAEC & NECO. But what exactly are they, and how do they differ? Let’s break it down 👇
2/ WAEC = West African Examinations Council.
Founded in 1952.
A regional exam body for 🇳🇬 Nigeria, 🇬🇭 Ghana, 🇸🇱 Sierra Leone, 🇱🇷 Liberia, & 🇬🇲 Gambia.
Popular exams: WASSCE (May/June for school candidates & Nov/Dec for private).
3/ NECO = National Examinations Council.
Established in 1999 by the Nigerian government.
100% Nigerian exam body.
Popular exams: SSCE (June/July for school & Nov/Dec for private), BECE (for JSS3), & NCEE (for Federal Unity Schools).

WAEC has a West African reach.
NECO is national — strictly Nigerian.
