Today they will tell us to celebrate. Flags will wave, speeches will echo, and leaders will smile for cameras. But in many homes across this country, there is nothing to celebrate because there is nothing to eat. A mother is boiling water just to keep her children's hopes alive, hoping something will appear before the pot finishes boiling. A father is skipping meals so his kids can have something small. Is this the democracy our heroes fought and died for? We were promised freedom, but freedom from what, if not from hunger, suffering, and want? You cannot eat democracy. You cannot feed your family with anniversary speeches. While some are popping champagne in air conditioned halls, millions are going to bed with empty stomachs and heavy hearts. This is not about politics, this is about survival. This is about a nation where the gap between the rich and the poor keeps widening while the common man keeps sinking. Today, before you join the celebration, ask yourself, can your neighbor afford a meal today? Can the family down your street feed their children tonight? Until hunger ends in this land, true democracy remains a dream deferred. What do you think, are we truly free? 🇳🇬💔
