97 days agoNamibia unveiled its new currency series to reflect national identity, economic vision and cultural heritage. The Bank of Namibia introduced upgraded banknotes and redesigned coins to: Enhance Security: Strengthen anti-counterfeiting measures and incorporate state-of-the-art security features. Modernize Currency: Update designs to reflect Namibia's development priorities, including key sectors like agriculture, manufacturing, tourism, retail and mining. Promote National Pride: Showcase national identity and sovereignty through the new currency designs. - Improve Accessibility: Incorporate tactile features for the visually impaired and ensure durability with new composite materials. The new currency series features: Banknotes: Upgraded designs with enhanced security features, featuring portraits of founding President Sam Nujoma and Kaptein Hendrik Witbooi, alongside wildlife images. Coins:Redesigned coins depicting key economic sectors, including: 10 cents: Mahangu, representing agriculture 20 cents: Renewable energy 50 cents: Sossusvlei landscapes, symbolizing tourism N$1: Coin exchange, representing retail N$5: Diamonds, representing mining The new currency series will enter circulation in August 2025, Alongside the current series, to ensure a smooth transition.
