It depends on how lazy the genius is, talented people have start up leverage over non talented people but hardwork and consistency improves talent
If a hardworking and skilled person had to compete with a lazy and talented person at first the talented one is more likely to win, for example in a classroom of children, the children with artistic talent (A) would do better than those without it (B), but if A does not draw over a period of maybe 5 years they would become more and more unfamiliar with the craft, BUT if B with average talent but is hard working and consistent with drawing, painting or sculpting etc, B would definitely win.
Similarly, in a situation where A works hard and is consistent and B is also hardworking and consistent, A's talent would push him higher than B because as I've said before talent gives people a higher starting point than others
