45 days agoThe delivery period for dogs (also called whelping) typically occurs after a gestation period of about 58 to 68 days, with the average being around 63 days (about 9 weeks) from the time of mating. Signs That a Dog Is Going Into Labor: Usually seen in the final 24 hours before delivery: Drop in body temperature (from 101–102.5°F to around 98°F) Restlessness, nesting behavior Loss of appetite Shivering or panting Clear vaginal discharge Stages of Dog Labor: 1. Stage 1: Early Labor (6–12 hours, sometimes up to 24 hours) Uterine contractions begin Dog may become anxious, dig/nest, pant, or refuse food 2. Stage 2: Delivery of Puppies Each puppy is usually delivered every 30 to 60 minutes The whole process can take 3 to 12 hours, sometimes longer with large litters A gap of more than 2 hours between puppies can be a problem 3.
