Meaning:
The name “Elohim” is the first name of God revealed in the Bible — “In the beginning, God (Elohim) created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1)
The word Elohim is a Hebrew plural noun, yet it takes singular verbs when referring to the true God.
This shows the unity of the one true God and yet hints at the mystery of the Trinity — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — all working together as one.
Biblical Meaning and Insight
“El” means Mighty One or Strong One.
“Elohim” expresses God’s majesty, power, and creative authority.
It portrays God as the all-powerful Creator who brings order out of chaos and life out of nothing.
So when we say Elohim, we acknowledge that:
God is the Source of all existence.
