12 hrs agoThe Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has reinstated direct cargo revenue collection at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) cargo terminals in Lagos—marking a significant policy shift after 15 years.
Under the new arrangement, FAAN officials from the Directorate of Cargo Development and Services (DCDS) are now posted directly at the cargo release points of NAHCO and SAHCO, ensuring that all due cargo charges are collected in real time .
This reform is the result of months of collaboration, spearheaded by FAAN’s Director of Cargo Development and Services, Mr. Lekan Thomas, alongside Airport Manager Mr. Olatokubo Arewa. It further received backing from FAAN’s Managing Director, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, and was reinforced by a meeting with the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi .
FAAN anticipates this move will significantly reduce revenue leakage and bolster accountability across the air cargo value chain. It also sets a standard that FAAN aims to replicate across other airports in Nigeria .
