Gachagua Memes and Funny Political Stories

Kenya’s Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has become one of the most entertaining figures in politics. Whether he is giving a speech, addressing a rally, or just attending a ceremony, Kenyans somehow always find a way of turning his moments into jokes and memes. Over time, Gachagua has earned the nickname “Riggy G”, a name that has now become as popular as his official title.

The story of how he got this name is hilarious. It all started with a young Kenyan on TikTok who decided that “Riggy G” sounded cooler than the full name. Within hours, the name went viral, and now crowds chant “Riggy G!” whenever he arrives at public events. Kenyans even joke that he should consider releasing a rap album with the title Riggy G: From Mathira to State House.

Another never-ending source of memes is his choice of suits. One time he stepped out in an outfit that seemed a little oversized, and the internet went wild. Memes quickly compared him to a strict headmaster, a church choir master, and even a chief attending a village baraza. Since then, every time he puts on a new outfit, Kenyans zoom in on the photos, analyze every detail, and create fresh jokes. Instead of being offended, many appreciate that Gachagua’s style has given the public endless laughter.

Gachagua is also known for his love of tea. He openly says he can drink several cups in a single sitting, and at one point, he assured farmers that as long as he is around, there will always be demand for tea. This comment inspired a flood of memes showing him holding gigantic teacups, posing inside teapots, or floating on tea plantations. To this day, whenever he mentions agriculture, people online flood the comments with: “Chai! Chai!”

His honesty in speeches has also made him a favorite for meme creators. Unlike many politicians, Gachagua often speaks in a very straightforward way. Once, he explained government operations in a simple business-like manner, and Kenyans immediately created posters branding the government as “Kenya & Sons Limited” with Gachagua as the managing director. The memes spread so widely that even those who don’t follow politics closely laughed at the creativity.

Another aspect Kenyans love to joke about is his serious face. No matter the occasion — whether it’s a national celebration or a church service — Gachagua often appears with a stern expression. Memes describe him as the “family treasurer” who keeps reminding relatives about expenses, or the “village uncle” who never laughs at weddings. That signature look has become a meme on its own.

In short, Rigathi Gachagua has unintentionally become the “meme machine” of Kenyan politics. From the famous Riggy G nickname, his unique dress code, and love for tea, to his blunt speeches and memorable expressions, Kenyans always find something to laugh about. Whether in Parliament or at a rally, one thing is guaranteed: if Gachagua is present, the internet will soon have a new wave of funny stories.
