    Geography and Landscape

The Maasai Mara is part of the greater Mara-Serengeti ecosystem and is characterized by rolling grasslands, scattered acacia trees, and meandering rivers like the Mara and Talek. The reserve lies at an altitude of about 1,500–2,170 meters and experiences a mild climate. The landscape provides an ideal habitat for herbivores and predators alike. The western section, called the Mara Triangle, has more forested areas and is well known for river crossings during the Great Migration. The varied terrain supports diverse ecosystems, from open plains to riverine forests, and is home to over 95 species of mammals and more than 450 bird species. The breathtaking scenery is not just a backdrop for wildlife, but a vital part of the Mara's ecological balance.
