Ghana has joined over 140 countries, including 28 in Africa, in adding the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine to its routine immunization program.                                                                                                                The vaccine, given to girls aged 9 to 14, is an important step in protecting them from cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women worldwide, with more than 600,000 new cases each year.                                                                                                                     Among the 28 African countries that have included the HPV vaccine in their national immunization programs are Rwanda, Nigeria, Kenya, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, and Ivory Coast.
