Today is Democracy Day in Nigeria. A day that reminds us of freedom. The freedom to speak. To dream. To vote. To choose. But while everyone is talking about democracy, I keep thinking about something else. Are we truly free if fear controls our decisions? Think about it. How many opportunities have we missed because we were afraid of failing? How many talents have we hidden because we were afraid of being judged? How many dreams have we postponed because we thought we weren’t good enough? Sometimes the biggest prison isn’t built with walls. It’s built with doubt. A lot of young Nigerians are carrying incredible potential. Future engineers. Doctors. Scientists. Entrepreneurs. Artists. Leaders. But potential means nothing if it never leaves your mind. The Nigeria we all want won’t be built by politicians alone. It will be built by students studying when nobody is watching. By young people learning skills. By people refusing to give up despite setbacks. By ordinary citizens doing extraordinary things consistently. Democracy gives us a voice. What we do with that voice is up to us. So today, instead of only celebrating Nigeria’s democracy, celebrate your own growth too. Celebrate the fact that you’re still here. Still trying. Still learning. Still fighting for a better future.
