125 days agoIt started with *Fela Kuti* in the 1970s — he mixed jazz, funk, and African drums to create Afrobeat (no “s” then). His music was powerful, political, and spiritual.
Fast-forward to the 2000s — a new generation emerged. They added hip-hop, dancehall, and pop to Afrobeat. That’s how *Afrobeats* (with an “s”) was born.
Artists like *2Baba*, *D’banj*, and *P-Square* took the sound mainstream across Africa.
Then came the game changers — *Wizkid*, *Davido*, *Burna Boy**Flavor* , and later Rema, Tems, Asake

With social media and streaming, the world started paying attention.

Tems x Rihanna/Beyoncé — pure history!
Afrobeats is now played in clubs from Lagos to London to LA. All from the streets of Africa.
