NEPA took light again… So instead of just complaining, I decided to learn how people actually build power banks themselves. Turns out, the beginner version is simpler than most people think. Here’s a step-by-step guide 🧵👇 First, understand this: A power bank basically does 3 things: stores electricity, regulates voltage, sends power to your phone through USB. That’s all. Things you need: 🔋 18650 lithium battery 🔌 Power bank charging module 📦 Battery holder 🔗 Small wires 📱 USB cable 🧰 Optional plastic case You can buy these from: Jumia Computer Village electronics shops About the battery: The most common one is called: “18650 lithium battery.” People reuse them from: old laptop batteries, rechargeable fans, emergency lamps. But quality matters. Avoid damaged or swollen batteries. The MOST important part is the charging module. Why? Because it: ✅ controls charging ✅ protects battery ✅ converts voltage to USB output ✅ prevents overcharging Without this module, you can damage your phone. STEP 1: Insert the battery into the battery holder. Make sure: ➕ positive and ➖ negative sides match correctly. Wrong polarity can spoil components. STEP 2: Connect the battery holder wires to the module. Usually: red wire = positive (+) black wire = negative (-) Most modules already label: B+ B- So connection is straightforward. STEP 3: Charge the battery through the module. Most modules use: Micro USB or Type-C input. You’ll usually see indicator lights showing charging status. STEP 4: Plug your phone cable into the USB output. If everything is connected correctly… your phone should start charging 🔋 That moment probably feels like: “I just created electricity with my own hands” 😅 For tablets or larger devices: One battery may not be enough. You may need: 3–4 batteries, stronger module, higher output current. Otherwise charging will be very slow.
