Wayne Rooney on Friday morning Podcast: for the first time in a long while, he praises Ronaldo for winning the Saudi Pro League and SLAMS Ronaldo’s critics 👀😬 “Everyone knows Cristiano and I have had our differences over the years, and I’ve never been one to just sit here and say he’s the greatest ever just to please people, and people love to talk about that. But you have to look at what he’s just done in Saudi Arabia and be honest. It’s absolutely incredible. To be fair, the mentality the lad has shown throughout his entire career is just top notch. It’s that exact same hunger that is still keeping him going today. I mean, look at it most of us from that era have been retired for years, sitting on couches or managing, and here he is, still fit as a fiddle, still bossing it on the big stage and banging in goals. He completely conquered Europe, and now he’s gone over to Saudi and done it there. You simply have to give respect where it’s due. I’ve seen some of the rubbish online with fans criticising him, calling him a crybaby, or mocking him for getting emotional after a match. Honestly, it’s embarrassing. These people talking nonsense have never been in his shoes. They don’t understand the pressure or the drive or what it takes to stay at that level for so long. When you are a natural born winner, you always want to win. It doesn’t matter if you’ve won five Ballon d’Ors or fifty trophies, it is never enough. That’s what makes him Cristiano Ronaldo. So if Cristiano Ronaldo is crying because he feels emotional after winning or achieving something, I don’t think people should be slagging him off for that. If anything, that’s what you want to see from someone who still cares that deeply. That passion is exactly why he’s still at the top, still pushing, still performing at his age when most of us have long stepped away. And whether people like it or not, you have to respect that and acknowledge that level of mentality” 👏
