But how long can a cycle of broken promises still be called democracy?
On paper, Nigeria is a democratic nation — leaders are elected, votes are cast, and institutions exist.
But in reality?
Votes are bought.
Elections are rigged.
Courts are politicized.
The will of the people is constantly ignored.
When the same politicians recycle themselves, when citizens are punished for protesting, and when corruption is protected by law — can we still say democracy is working?
Democracy is supposed to mean government by the people — but more and more Nigerians feel powerless, not represented.
If democracy is failing the people, maybe it’s time the people redefine democracy.
Not just as a system of voting — but as a culture of accountability, justice, and true participation.
So tell me —
Is Nigeria truly democratic… or just pretending to be?

We hope.
We get disappointed.
Then we repeat.
