108 days agoJoeboy (Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus), born 21 May 1997 in Lagos, Nigeria, is an Afro‑pop and R&B singer-songwriter who has become one of Nigeria’s most prominent musical exports. Discovered in 2017 by Mr Eazi via a viral Instagram cover of Ed Sheeran’s "Shape of You", he joined the emPawa Africa talent incubator, using his grant to shoot the video for “Fààjí,” marking his first breakthrough .
His career hit another high in March 2019 with the release of “Baby,” a track written in just 45 minutes that amassed over 20 million streams and more than 31 million video views that year. The follow-up single “Beginning” also performed strongly across the continent. Both tracks featured on his debut EP Love & Light (2019), which helped elevate him as a rising star in African pop .
In February 2021, Joeboy released his debut album Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic, exploring themes of love and self‑discovery. In May 2023, he dropped his sophomore studio album Body & Soul, featuring hit singles like “Sip (Alcohol),” “Contour,” and “Duffel Bag,” solidifying his position in Afrobeats’ mainstream . Later in November 2023 came the reflective EP Body, Soul & Spirit, leading up to his third album Viva Lavida launched in March 2025 through his own label Young Legend, distributed by Warner Music Africa .
Joeboy’s music—known for its catchy melodies, mellow grooves, and romantic storytelling—has earned him awards like Best Artiste in African Pop at AFRIMA 2019 and Best Pop Artiste at Soundcity MVP 2020. With reported net worth estimates ranging from $2 million to $5 million, he generates income through streaming, sold‑out live shows, and endorsement deals, including partnerships in Nigeria with brands like Samsung .
