    As of May 2025, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the results for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), revealing concerning statistics about candidate performance. 

     

    Out of the 1,955,069 candidates who sat for the examination, over 1.5 million scored below 200 marks, representing approximately 75% of the total candidates. Specifically, 1,534,654 candidates scored below 200, while only 420,415 candidates achieved scores above 200. Notably, fewer than 1% of candidates scored above 300 .

     

    The breakdown of the scores is as follows: 

     

    4,756 candidates scored between 320 and 400 

     

    7,658 candidates scored between 300 and 319 

     

    73,441 candidates scored between 250 and 299 

     

    334,560 candidates scored between 200 and 249 

     

    983,187 candidates scored between 160 and 199 

     

    488,197 candidates scored between 140 and 159 

     

    57,419 candidates scored between 120 and 139 

     

    3,820 candidates scored between 100 and 119 

     

    2,031 candidates scored below 100 .

     

     

    In response to these results, JAMB has announced plans to introduce a new format for accepting admissions, aiming to address the challenges posed by the current scoring system and to improve the alignment between examination performance and university admission standards .

     

    The board has also reported that 97 candidates were found to have committed various infractions, and an additional 2,157 candidates are under investigation for suspected malpractice. Furthermore, results for candidates with biometric issues are being reviewed, and those cleared will be rescheduled for another test. Results for blind candidates and others under the JEOG category are still undergoing processing .
