Marriage: A Journey of Love and Tranquility

Marriage is meant to be an environment where you keep no secrets from your partner. They are your confidant. You get to know each other better than anyone else in the world—the one who you get to be yourself around. You don’t need to pretend around your partner.

Marriage is about give and take, of mutual fulfillment and mutual satisfaction. Now you get to be with your buddy, your companion, your best friend, and your lover. You get to grow old with this person and go on a lifelong adventure of self-discovery.

The one whose soul you fall in love with—the love remains constant even after the passion is gone. The one whose steady, burning ember continues of true love even after the wrinkles have set in, even after the passion has died down. Whenever you look at them, you feel contentment in your heart. Why? Because you’re with the one that Allah has created just for you.

Now the beautiful verse in Surah where Allah talks about marriage I love so much, and I dissect each and every line of that verse. It goes like this:

“And amongst His signs is that He has created for you mates from amongst yourselves. He has created for you mates from amongst yourselves, that you may dwell in tranquility with them. Ah my goodness—that you may live in peace and tranquility with your partner—and that He has put love and mercy between your hearts.”
