With the 2027 General Elections approaching, Nigeria's political landscape is gradually taking shape as major parties unveil their presidential candidates. While political alliances and court cases could still influence developments, a number of prominent contenders have already emerged. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and is seeking a second term in office after receiving the endorsement of his party. His campaign is expected to focus on defending his administration's policies and reforms. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emerged as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). A veteran politician, Atiku has contested for the presidency multiple times and remains one of the most recognizable opposition figures in the country. Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi is the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). Obi, who attracted significant support in the 2023 election, is once again positioning himself as an alternative choice for voters seeking political change. The Social Democratic Party (SDP) is associated with Adewole Adebayo, while activist Omoyele Sowore is expected to fly the flag of the African Action Congress (AAC). Other parties are also fielding candidates, making the race increasingly competitive. As always, elections should not be decided by party loyalty alone.
