    THE PRICE OF SURVIVAL

The boy sank deeper into the river, his limbs heavy and his heart sinking with the water. Just as his vision blurred and the darkness crept in, he thought he saw something-a flash of movement, beautiful yet otherworldly.

    Then everything went black.

When he woke, it was with a violent cough, his lungs desperate for air. He gasped, his eyes struggling to focus. The first thing he saw was the face of a man-strikingly handsome, with eyes that shimmered like the ocean. The man leaned over him, concern etched on his features. But something felt... off.

His mouth tasted like seafood, brine and salt lingering on his tongue, an unsettling sensation that made his throat tighten. He tried to push himself up, but the man's hand pressed gently but firmly on his chest and stomach. It was almost as if he were searching for something, his touch deliberate, yet strangely intimate.

Feeling a surge of insecurity, the boy shoved the man away, scrambling to his feet. His breath hitched when he looked down. The man wasn't human-he had a tail, a long, sleek fin that flapped gently in the water like a fish.

The boy opened his mouth to scream, but before a sound could escape, the man raised a finger to his lips, signaling for silence. The boy froze, his pulse racing, but he didn't dare protest.
