She talks too much. She complains about little things. And sometimes, yes, she annoys us.
But one thing I’ll never forget is what she did in 2012.
My elder brother wanted to travel abroad.
Visa application. Passport. School admission.
No money.
My father said, “Let him go and hustle like every other man.”
But my mother? She didn’t wait for anyone.
She took her father’s land the only thing she inherited from her family and sold it for ₦3.2 million.
She gave everything to him.
He travelled.
Years passed.
He started making money.
He stopped calling.
Then one day, when someone asked him why he hasn’t sent money home, he said this:
“My mother is not clean. I dream of her chasing me. I think she’s a witch.”
This is the same woman who sold her only inheritance for him.
She heard it and broke down.
That was the first day I saw her cry until she couldn’t breathe.
She said:
“So na witch dey borrow you wings fly abroad?”
And now, every day, she still calls his name in prayer.
