Not Yours to Use

I’ve learned to smile, but guard my peace,

To give with care, not piece by piece.

I’m kind, not blind—I see it all,

The ones who cheer just for the fall.

You thought my silence meant you won,

That I’d be yours to lean upon.

    But every favor, every call,

Was just your way to take it all.

I’m smart enough to read the game,

To know the patterns, spot the blame.

You won’t find weakness in my grace,

I’ve drawn my line, I’ve found my place.

So don’t mistake my heart for chains,

Or think I’ll stay through quiet pains.

I’m not your tool, your fool, your plan—

I know my worth. I know I can.
