55 days agoThe Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced a temporary suspension of train services along the Port Harcourt–Aba corridor to allow for routine maintenance.
In a statement signed by NRC Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, and shared via the agency’s official X account, passengers were informed that services have been paused but are expected to resume on September 9, 2025.
The NRC expressed regret for any inconvenience caused and emphasised that the suspension is purely procedural and scheduled to be brief.
This developmental service had only recently begun operations in July 2025, following extensive rehabilitation of the corridor. It has quickly become a lifeline for commuters and traders in Rivers and Abia States, running from Port Harcourt through Elelenwo, Obuzor, Umugo to Aba.
The service currently runs from Tuesday to Saturday, departing Port Harcourt at 8:00 a.m. and returning from Aba at 3:00 p.m., with fares priced at ₦1,500 for first class and ₦800 for standard class.
