Security operatives on Monday dispersed protesters who gathered at the Utako area of Abuja to demand the release of a detained separatist leader.
The group had earlier fled after tear gas was fired around Maitama but later regrouped at Utako before being dispersed again.
The demonstrators, made up of civil rights activists and pro-democracy supporters, said their action was part of a campaign urging authorities to comply with a 2022 Court of Appeal judgment.
Earlier in the day, several tear gas canisters were fired near the Transcorp Hilton area, causing panic among traders and commuters.
Security presence has since increased across Abuja, with personnel stationed at key points including Eagle Square and Berger roundabout.
