But when you consider the stakes and the state of our World Cup qualifying campaign, it feels more like a missed opportunity than a point gained. The boys showed a lot of spirit to come back from a goal down, but we just couldn't find that winning touch. The fight is still on, but it's gotten a whole lot tougher.
Let's break down the first half. South Africa, playing at home, came out with a lot of energy and put us under pressure. They looked sharper and took their chance well. We looked a bit disjointed, and you could feel the nerves. But that equalizer right before halftime? That was crucial. It changed the entire dynamic of the game and gave the team a massive confidence boost heading into the break.
The second half was a different story. The Super Eagles came out with more purpose and intent. We created more chances and controlled the tempo of the game for long stretches. We pushed and pushed for the winner, but the Bafana Bafana defense held firm. Credit to them, they were organized and didn't give us much space to work with. It's frustrating to think we were so close to getting a big result on the road.
