The moment you say “we can now reverse aging” or “Japan just made artificial blood,” somebody somewhere starts clutching their Bible like it’s an inhaler.
In the seminary, during our biomedical ethics class, I was one of the few madmen passionate about biogerontology, how to slow or even reverse aging.
Others would listen with open mouths, nod slowly, then scream in holy unison: “BAN IT!”
Why?
Because to them, trying to understand biology beyond “God said so” means we’re playing God.
