Silent Storm

There’s a storm in me no one can see,

waves crashing quietly beneath my skin.

I smile so they’ll never believe

how heavy the darkness I’m living in.

I talk about dreams I may never chase,

make jokes so they think I’m fine.

But when the night comes to take its place,

I sink in thoughts that are only mine.

It’s not that I want to hide away,

it’s just no one hears the way I ache.

So I carry my pain through every day,

    pretending it’s something I didn’t break.
