Since June 26, 2025, all major mobile operators in Nigeria—including MTN, Airtel, Glo, and 9mobile—have stopped issuing and registering new SIM cards (including e‑SIMs and router SIMs). This suspension stems from a technical failure with the NIMC’s NIN portal, affecting the entire registration process .
The outage has now lasted three weeks (as of mid‑July), frustrating consumers who are unable to obtain new SIMs even after purchasing them .
Telcos have hinted that the suspension might remain in place for another week or more .
Users and businesses are raising complaints and urging NIMC, NCC, and Minister Bosun Tijani to resolve the impasse swiftly .
