I know you be wondering if we have this type of fish here in Nigeria, yes there is, and in some south west region in Nigeria, if not why do they have Yoruba name for it.
Stingrays have their Eyes on top but their Mouths are underneath!
Stingrays’ eyes sit on the top of their flat bodies, so they can watch for predators or movement above them while their mouths, gills, and nostrils are on the underside, where they rest on the ocean floor.
This allows them to hide under sand while still being able to breathe, sense prey, and stay alert.
Even though they can’t see their food since their eyes are on top, they use special sensors called ampullae of Lorenzini to detect the tiny electric fields given off by prey like crabs and small fish.
Stingrays are known to be a no or less bone fish, they used their tale to resist attack. If stingrays sting human as we know, the pain can last for hours with blood coming out from the spot.
I came across this fish and online and feel like to share it for people like me who don't know about it until now.
