That Day Still Dey My Mind Like Yesterday…
I still remember the day.
Rain dey fall small.
I get one text: “Call me, it’s urgent.”
I call.
Voice shaky.
“Sorry… he didn’t make it.”
My heart pause.
I said, “What do you mean?”
They repeat am again: “He’s gone.”
My brother. My guy. My protector.
Just like that.
No warning.
No goodbye.
No second chance.
I remember how I sit down on the floor, phone still dey my hand, eyes dry — like my tears even fear to come out.
Funeral come.
People dey talk like say words fit fix anything.
“Be strong.”
“He’s in a better place.”
But nobody dey see say I dey break inside.
I still hear his laugh sometimes.
I still dey type his name for chat before I remember say he no dey again.
I wish say that day never happen.
I wish I call am more.
I wish I hug am tight the last time I see am.
Now, I just pray for strength… and peace.
If you still have someone you love, please —
Call them. Forgive them. Laugh with them. Check on them.
Because one day, “later” go turn to “too late.”
