    Shortest Lifespan: The Mayfly

Mayflies hold the record for the shortest lifespan among animals. After emerging as adults, many species live less than 24 hours. Their sole purpose is reproduction, and they do not eat after maturing. This rapid lifecycle makes them a symbol of life's fleeting nature.

Longest Lifespan: The Greenland Shark and Tortoises

On the opposite end, the Greenland shark is believed to be the longest-living vertebrate, estimated to live over 400 years. These slow-growing Arctic sharks live in cold waters that help preserve their tissues and extend their lives.

Additionally, animals like the Galápagos tortoise can live over 100 years, with some individuals reaching 150 years or more.

Whether an animal lives for a day or centuries, each plays a unique role in our ecosystem—reminding us that every life, no matter how long, has value.
