Let me paint a picture for you. A young Nigerian student wakes up early, skips breakfast because there is nothing to eat, walks or joins a danfo to get to campus, and finally arrives at a lecture hall built for 200 people but holding 500. No seat. No space. Some are standing. Some are sitting on the floor. The projector is not working. The lecturer is doing his best with chalk and a dusty board. The library has books published in 1998. The laboratory has equipment that hasn't worked in years. And this student is expected to come out and compete with graduates from universities in Ghana, South Africa, UK, and Canada. How? This is not just sad. It is a national shame. Education is the foundation of every developed country in the world. No nation has ever risen without investing seriously in how it trains its young people. Nigerian students are not unintelligent. They are some of the most brilliant young minds on this continent. But brilliance cannot thrive in broken environments. Government at every level needs to wake up. Fix the classrooms. Update the libraries. Equip the laboratories. Reduce the congestion. Because what we are doing to our students today, we are doing to our country tomorrow. Our students deserve better.
