    The Empty Seat

    Genre: Realistic Fiction

    Theme: Grief, Love, Memory

It was the last day of school.

    The classroom buzzed with excitement.

Students took selfies, scribbled autographs, and hugged like they hadn’t just spent six years fighting over chairs and assignments.

    But one seat was empty.

    The seat by the window.

    Where Simi used to sit.

    She loved the sunlight.

Said it made her feel "seen" even on her worst days.

Simi never returned after second term.

Some say she had “a condition.”

Others say she just went to rest.

    But we all knew.

She fought cancer longer than she’d fought any exam.

That afternoon, the teacher walked in quietly.

She placed a single rose on Simi’s desk and whispered,

"You made it to the end, in your own way."

    No one said a word.

    Not even Emeka—the noisemaker-in-chief.

    We all just stood…

remembering a girl who left too soon,

    but left light behind.

    Moral:

    Fiction tells imagined stories,

but they reflect real emotions we all understand:

    Loss. Love. Hope. Memory.
