During World W*r II, while most African colonies were still under British rule, one young man from the Gold Coast (now Ghana) did something no one expected…
His name was Seth Anthony.
In 1942, at just 21 years old, he became the first black African to be commissioned as an officer in the British Army. Until then, only white British citizens could become officers. Africans were mostly used as foot soldiers or labourers.
But Seth Anthony was different.
He was smart, brave, and well-educated. He trained in the UK and led African troops in India and Burma (now Myanmar), fighting against the Japanese Army.
British generals said he had “the courage of a lion and the mind of a true leader.” 💪
After the w*r, Seth Anthony returned to Ghana and became a top diplomat, helping Ghana gain indep
endence in 1957.
