The Gracious David-West Case: A Nigerian Serial K#ller

Gracious David-West, a 40-year-old Nigerian man, was sentenced to death by hanging for m$rdering at least 15 women in various hotels across the country, particularly in Port Harcourt. His crimes, committed between July and September 2019, sent shockwaves through the nation.

     The Investigation and Arrest

David-West's modus operandi involved luring women, mostly s#x workers, to hotel rooms with promises of money. He would then tie them up with strips of cloth, r@pe them, and strangle them to de@th. A breakthrough in the case came when a survivor, Benita Etim, managed to escape and alert the authorities. CCTV footage also helped identify David-West, leading to his arrest on September 19, 2019.

    The Trial and Sentence

During his trial, David-West initially pleaded guilty to nine m$rder charges but later changed his plea to not guilty. However, the prosecution presented overwhelming evidence, including his confession and CCTV footage, which led to his conviction. Justice Adolphus Enebeli sentenced him to de@th by hanging, stating that the evidence presented was sufficient to prove his guilt.

     Background and Motivations

David-West's background reveals a troubled past. Born in Buguma, Rivers State, he reportedly had a difficult childhood and was part of a mafia-styled street gang called the Greenlanders. His motivations for the m$rders remain unclear, but his actions were described as having "an irresistible urge to k#ll". David-West claimed to have been driven by an evil spirit and confessed to his crimes, expressing no remorse.

     Impact and Aftermath

The case highlights the need for increased vigilance and measures to protect vulnerable populations, particularly women. The sentence handed to David-West serves as a deterrent to potential offenders, emphasizing the consequences of such heinous crimes. The case also raises questions about the role of societal factors and support systems in preventing such crimes.
