32 days agoAfter months of digging into cybersecurity, one thing is clear: it’s not beginner-friendly. Breaking into the field feels almost impossible — entry-level jobs are scarce, competition is brutal, and salaries take a long time to reach the six-figure “average” people always talk about.
So why is cybersecurity still hyped as the career to chase? 🤔
As an undergrad, it’s honestly discouraging. I’ve always dreamed of going all the way — Masters, PhD, maybe even becoming a professor someday. But I keep hearing those degrees aren’t valued in Cyber, that skills and certs matter more than academia.
Off-topic but related: would something like Data Science be a better path? It feels more research-driven, more open to advanced degrees, and maybe even more rewarding in the long run.
Curious — what do you all think? Is Cyber still worth it, or are we overrating it?
