There was a time I thought “balance” meant waking up early, crushing a workout, answering emails before breakfast, giving my best at work, being fully present with friends, and somehow still finding time to read before bed. I chased that version of balance like it was a prize for doing adulthood right.
But somewhere between late-night takeout dinners and missed calls from people I care about, I realized no one actually has it all together. We’re all just trying to keep the pieces from falling apart at the same time. Some days I’m productive and proud; other days, I’m exhausted and wondering if this is what burnout feels like.
The truth is, balance isn’t about splitting time perfectly — it’s about knowing what matters most today. Some days that’s rest. Some days it’s ambition. And sometimes, it’s just getting through without snapping at the next person who emails “quick question.”
Maybe balance isn’t something to achieve. Maybe it’s something we learn to forgive ourselves for not having.
