Zara’s hands were still trembling as she stared at her phone.
Unknown Number: “You shouldn’t have let him in.”
Her heart raced. Who was watching her? And how did they know Damian had been there?
Before she could think further, a soft knock echoed on her door.
Her chest tightened. Damian.
“Forgot my jacket,” he said casually, flashing that familiar, easy smile. But his eyes… they didn’t smile.
Zara narrowed her eyes. “You didn’t have a jacket.”
He paused, smirked, and leaned slightly closer. “Right. Guess I forgot.”
She found it weird because why did he talk about a jacket when he never brought a jacket to her house.....
Suddenly, his phone buzzed. He quickly pulled it out, turned away, and whispered into it:
“…No, she doesn’t know anything yet. Yes, I’ll handle it.”
Zara’s stomach twisted. Something about the way he spoke made her question everything.
When he turned back, he noticed her staring.
"Relax, Zara,” he said smoothly. “If I wanted to hurt you…” He lightly tapped her chin, “…you wouldn’t be standing here.”
Her phone buzzed again. Another message from the unknown number:
Unknown Number: “Don’t let him stay.”
Zara’s mind raced. Who could be warning her? And why?
As Damian left, a folded piece of paper slid under her door. Her name was scribbled across it in sharp, elegant handwriting.
She picked it up with trembling hands. Inside, a single line read:
“Meet me at the old pier at midnight. Come alone.”
Zara’s breath caught. She knew her life was about to change forever.
