Among the villagers lived Temba, a strong and curious young man. Unlike the others, he did not believe in ghosts or curses.
Every time he heard the voice, he would step out of his hut and stare at the misty peak above.
“Why should we live in fear?” he would ask. “If it’s a spirit, I’ll speak to it. If it’s a man, I’ll find him.”
The elders shook their heads.
“Pride kills faster than poison,” one warned. “The mountain keeps secrets that no man should disturb.”
But Temba’s courage—or perhaps his curiosity—was stronger than his fear.
So one cold evening, he decided to climb the mountain and uncover the truth behind the voice.
