Most things in life shrink when divided. Share your money, and your wallet gets lighter. Share your time, and your hours disappear. But knowledge? Knowledge is different. The more you give it away, the more it multiplies.
This is something I’ve seen in both classrooms and life. When I teach a concept—say, solving equations—it not only strengthens the learner’s understanding but deepens my own. It forces me to refine my thinking, to clarify, to simplify. In giving, I receive.
Think about it. Great civilizations—from the Egyptians to the Greeks to the Chinese—only thrived because knowledge was passed down. Libraries, schools, storytelling traditions… all of them exist because someone believed wisdom should not die with one person.
In our modern world, hoarding knowledge has no value. The internet has already broken the monopoly on information. What matters now is not what you know, but what you’re willing to share. A teacher who hides ideas out of fear of “competition” forgets that the true legacy of wisdom is influence, not possession.
Sharing knowledge creates ripple effects you may never see. A lesson explained today could inspire a student years later to build something groundbreaking. A short blog you write might plant a seed in a reader’s mind that grows into a movement.
So, here’s my conviction: the wealthiest people in the future will not be those with the most money, but those who give away knowledge so generously that their ideas outlive them. That’s the kind of wealth worth chasing.
