The world isn't broken by Evil, but by indifference

If your brother becomes rich tomorrow, but you don't.

And he refuses to help you when you're in need of money, Will you think he's a bad person?

But he shouldn't be because he doesn't owe you anything abi?

It's his money na,his sweat he can do what he pleases with it, right?..

Apply this to this situation;

Let's say you're coming back from work one evening and beside the road you see a child who fell into a lake and is struggling to come out.

If you leave that child and keep walking home, are you a bad person?

After all, you don't owe the child anything, it's your time and effort and you'd choose where to direct it, isn't that so?

One can point out that the first scenario had two grown adults, and both probably had equal chances of being rich but only one took it and so he shouldn't be obliged to help his brother and rightfully so?

But the other case involves an adult and a child, with different strengths and experience and so the adult should have helped the child.

So let me give a different scenario, let's say that your childhood friend whom you're very close to and is about your age suddenly becomes blind one day.

And whenever he's going out,he begins to ask you to help aid and sometimes this gets inconvenient for you.

Will you be a bad person for choosing to not helping around?

If yes then why? I think you don't owe him anything abi?

Human nature is so selfish that sometimes I wonder how it is that we're social beings.

In the three scenarios I listed above there's people who'd withold help from their partner simply because they feel that they don't owe it to them.

This arises from a thought that kindness is something that you should show others only on certain conditions.

I personally think that a person who thinks like this is not a kind person.

An inherently kind person is indebted to others, he must always be kind to them untill he can't, and without reserve to show evil to anyone unless in kindness.(A case where something seemingly bad is done for the greater good; utilitarianism)

A strong case can be made that people don't deserve kindness and even reward it with evil and so it's not necessary that we expend ourselves to help those in need.

But expending yourself is a wrong way to be kind.

You must look out for yourself first and then only help others when you're reasonably satisfied.

In this way,you don't lose yourself for others.

Again, not all people reward kindness with evil. Some people reward kindness with more kindness.

I , Prosper, I'm a beneficiary of so much kindness shown to me by people who received kindness from my late father that I have to admit that I wouldn't have gotten to this point in my life if not for them and they wouldn't have been involved with me at all if my father wasn't kind to them.

If you think well, you'd see the same pattern in your family, that uncle,friend, family friend or neighbors who was almost entirely the reason you were able to survive a bad situation.

It's because they were naturally kind people or you shew them kindness at first.

Kindness begets kindness and selfishness begets selfishness.

The opposite of kindness isn't evil, but selfishness.

The world is an evil place not because of evil doers but because of those who do nothing at the sight of this evil.

He who does nothing in the face of oppression or evil is on the side of the oppressor or evil doer even if he thinks that he doesn't contribute to the evil.
