I am convinced Nigerian parents possess supernatural abilities. Nobody can convince me otherwise. For example, how do they always know when you’re enjoying yourself? You can be laughing with your friends for 5 straight hours. The moment your happiness reaches 100%, you hear: “Isaiah! Come and wash this plate!” How? Who informed them? And let’s talk about the famous Nigerian parent GPS. You can be in your room. Door closed. Lights off. Phone on silent. Then suddenly: “What are you doing in there?” Excuse me? Are there CCTV cameras in the walls? Another mystery is how every Nigerian parent becomes a detective during exam season. You score 85%. Everybody else celebrates. Not Nigerian parents. Their first question: “Where did the remaining 15 marks go?” Ah yes, because apparently perfection was the minimum requirement. And don’t let visitors come to the house. The same parent that was shouting at you 10 minutes ago will suddenly introduce you as: “This is my child. Very intelligent. Very responsible.” You stand there wondering if they’re talking about you or the neighbor’s child. Then there is the legendary phrase: “When I was your age…” Once you hear that, just sit down. A history documentary is about to begin. You’ll hear stories about trekking 500 kilometers to school, fetching water from three villages away, and reading textbooks under moonlight. Meanwhile, your biggest struggle is finding a charger. Despite all the jokes, though, Nigerian parents deserve some credit. They may be dramatic. They may ask impossible questions. They may wake you up from the sweetest sleep known to mankind. But somehow they always want the best for us. Now be honest… What’s the funniest thing your parents have ever said or done? 😂👇 Let the comment section cook.
